Easyfairs reports 34% drop in CO2 emissions in latest sustainability report

The report shows a 34% cut in total CO2 emissions, a 64% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions, and a 27% drop in carbon intensity per event.

For an industry that has long struggled to quantify its environmental footprint, it’s a visible benchmark.

Easyfairs reports 34% drop in CO2 emissions in latest sustainability report

Easyfairs has released its second Sustainability Report, outlining the group’s progress in reducing its environmental footprint since its 2019 baseline.

The report covers the company’s performance across environmental, social and governance (ESG) dimensions and includes the deployment of a new ESG platform to measure carbon impact annually.

“For Easyfairs, sustainability is not a passing trend or a compliance exercise; our responsibility goes far beyond organising events,” said Nil Sönmez, Chief Sustainability Officer at Easyfairs. “It is about ensuring that the positive economic and innovative impact of our activities does not come at the expense of the planet’s resources. By integrating sustainability into the way we design, deliver and develop our events and venues, we aim to drive real, measurable change.”

Since the 2019 baseline, Easyfairs reported the following environmental results:

  • 34% cut in total CO2 emissions
  • 64% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions
  • 27% decrease in carbon intensity per event
  • 75% of events now embed sustainability in their content programmes
  • 76% of events partner with a charity

On the people side, the company reported an Employee Net Promoter Score of 34, with 49% of its Senior Leadership Team being women.

Anne Lafère, Group CEO of Easyfairs, said: “Sustainability is not something we can achieve alone. It is a collective effort that requires the engagement of all our stakeholders: our exhibitors, visitors, guest event organisers, team members, business partners and shareholders. We are more determined than ever to push boundaries and set new standards for sustainability in our industry. Despite the complexities of the global landscape, we believe that every step forward, no matter how small, brings us closer to a brighter, more sustainable future.”

The report also acknowledges areas where further improvement is needed. Easyfairs said it remains committed to transparency in reporting its progress year after year.

“M&A activity in face-to-face events shows renewed momentum”: Grimes, McGovern & Associates

M&A activity across the media and events sectors showed resilience and renewed momentum through 2024 and 2025, according to a new report from Grimes, McGovern & Associates (GMA).

GMA tracked 1,040 deals across the past three years, comprising 262 event deals and 778 media and information services deals. Event-related transactions climbed from 73 deals in 2023 to 94 in 2024, reaching 95 in 2025. Media deal volume dipped from 265 transactions in 2023 to 247 in 2024 before recovering to 266 in 2025.

PE participation increased across the combined market, with the following breakdown:

  • PE-related event deals: 24 (2023), 34 (2024), 44 (2025)
  • PE share of total event deals: 33% (2023), 36% (2024), 46% (2025)
  • PE-related media/info services deals: 44 (2023), 24 (2024), 47 (2025)
  • PE share of total media deals: 17% (2023), 10% (2024), 18% (2025)
  • Total PE deals count: 68 (2023), 58 (2024), 91 (2025)

GMA identified four themes driving deal activity in 2025: a focus on complementary assets, specialized events and communities, geographic expansion and cross-region deals, and premium and experiential events.

Notable deals highlighted in the report include the acquisitions of PARCEL Forum and Digital Health Intelligence by CloserStill, Northstar Travel Group by JTB Group (Japan), This is Beyond and Insurtech Insights by Emerald, and Art Monte-Carlo by Informa.

GMA said the trends point to a market that has factored in macroeconomic uncertainty and entered an active acquisition cycle focused on scalable, specialized and defensible media and event properties.
